Advertisement for Admission to Ph.D. Program for Autumn 2018 Semester

                                Applications are invited from highly motivated and research-oriented students for the admission to PhD Program in the following areas of specializations of different disciplines as per the below-mentioned categories of admission and time schedule. Candidates are advised to visit the profiles of the faculty members at http://www.iiti.ac.in/People/faculty.html, discipline web pages, and the advertisement uploaded by each discipline, before applying for the PhD Program.

Candidates are selected for admission to PhD programs through a rigorous evaluation process which includes an interview by a selection committee and mere application does not imply automatic admission into the PhD program.

Admissions categories:-
For Indian Applicants For International Applicants
  • FA (Fellowship Awardee): Fellowship Awardees from the agencies such as CSIR, UGC, NBHM, etc. OR JRF/SRF project staff working in a Sponsored Research Project under a faculty member PI of the project) of IIT Indore. The scholarship will as per the rules/guidelines of the concerned funding agency.
  • TA (Teaching Assistantship): Teaching Assistantship with scholarship as per MHRD guidelines.
  • SW (Sponsored WITHOUT Institute scholarship): For excellent candidates sponsored from a highly reputed R&D organization or Industry. [After completion of required course work, either on Full Time (SWF) or Part Time (SWP) basis, with approval of the competent authority]
  • IS (Institute Staff): Only for permanent staff members of IIT Indore (on Part Time basis). (Additional RulesAdditional Forms )
  • DF (Defense Forces): Serving personnel in the defense forces WITHOUT any scholarship from the Institute. (Additional RulesAdditional Forms )
  • CT (College Teacher): Permanent Faculty members sponsored by a College/Institute/University which is amongst top 100 in NIRF of MHRD in the respective category in the immediate preceding year of the application.

    * The first division is defined as
    (i) 60 % marks for GEN/OBC (55% for SC/ST) category in aggregate, OR
    (ii) CPI/CGPA of 6.0 for GEN/OBC (5.5 for SC/ST) category on the scale of 10; with corresponding proportional requirements when the scales are
    other than on 10 (for example 4.8 for GEN/OBC category (4.4 for SC/ST) on a scale of 8) , OR
    (iii) A first division as specified by the University/Institute awarding the degree.

    Application Fee: 100/- Indian Rupees to be paid through State Bank Collect. Click here for Payment  . No application fee is payable by the International students for 2018-Autumn Semester.

    Application Procedure {for Indian Applicants}:
  • Candidates must apply ONLINE through our website (http://academic.iiti.ac.in:8080/nregistration.jsp). This will generate a unique application number for each applicant.
  • After Submitting the application online, the eligible candidate has to send the signed hard-copy of the application mentioning Statement of Purpose (SOP) along with State Bank Collect receipt, recent photograph, Self- attested relevant Certificates, (for SW candidates: No Objection Certificate, Experience Certificate, last 3 months salary slip and Employer's PAN card) to the DPGC convener of concerned Discipline/Center/School within 10 days from the last date of submission of online application.
  • In case a candidate wishes to apply in more than one discipline then separate application must be filled for each discipline.

    Application Procedure {for International Applicants}:
  • Definition of International Applicant: Anyone who is not a citizen of India will be considered as an international candidate for the purpose of admission.
  • Candidates must apply ONLINE through our website (http://academic.iiti.ac.in:8080/nregistration.jsp). This will generate a unique application number for each applicant.
  • After Submitting the application online, the eligible candidate has to send the signed hard-copy of the application mentioning Statement of Purpose (SOP) along with recent photograph, Self- attested relevant Certificates in support of academic qualifications, experience and citizenship (copy of valid passport) etc. to the DPGC convener of concerned Discipline/Center/School latest by June 15, 2018 .
  • In case a candidate wishes to apply in more than one discipline then separate application must be filled for each discipline.
  • Selection procedure: The selection procedure would be an interview (in-person or over video conference) for the shortlisted applicants. Statement of purpose (SOP) and recommendations of the two referees must be submitted by the candidate before his/her interview.
  • Common Application Portal (COP) : International applicants may refer to the web link https://intapp.iitb.ac.in/ for admission in PhD Programs.

  • International applicants are exempted form GRE and TOEFL qualification for Autumn Semester 2018.


  • Fee Structure: Fee payable by the International candidates shall be as under:
  • Regions Tuition fee per Semester (in US $) Living expenses per semester*

    * Living Expenses per semester include accommodation charges, registration fee, refundable security deposits, one-time admission fee and charges towards Group Insurance Premium per annum. The charges for food expenses are not included in the living expenses and the student will have to pay separately as per the prevailing rates.

  • Fee Waiver: There would be no specific scholarship offered as part of the program and only waiver will be offered to the students on the basis of their merit.
  •       (a) 100 % waiver (100% waiver on Tuition fees only) to the top 25% of the students,
          (b) 50 % waiver (50% waiver on Tuition fees only) to the next 25% of the students,
          (c) 25 % waiver (25% waiver on Tuition fees only) to the next 25% of the students,
          (d) No waiver will be offered to the remaining 25 % of the students
  • Financial Support: Concerned supervisor may explore payment of allowance from his/her international collaboration, sponsored research project, consultancy project, etc. Allowance from IIT Indore may also be provided for candidates assisting in Teaching at IIT Indore.
